Establishing and managing community shipyards.

‘Establishing and managing community shipyards’ describes the creation of community shipyards in five different villages of the Andaman coast. Save Andaman Network (SAN) has supported the development of community shipyards with the intention of establishing both short and long term community development processes. In the case studies of Bahn Hua Hin, Satun province, Bahn Koh Pu, Krabi province, Bahn Koh Muk, Trang province, Bahn Nahm Khem, Phang Nga province and Bahn Bang Kuay Nok, Ranong province Witthaya Aphorn describes the process and the consequences of establishing the shipyards. The main goal of this study was to document the effects of the community shipyard construction as lessons learnt in order to improve the communities’ future outlook.
